Clearly the work of a very skilled artist; depth and definition are emphasized by the layers of paint and where the artist has chosen to achieve very fine linework by taking a knife and carefully scraping away some of those very same layers. Though she be but little, she is fierce! Shakespeare wasn’t talking about still lifes, I concede, but this small painting packs quite a wallop. For one thing, this is a stunning frame. It projects itself from the wall without overwhelming the painting. While I like the fruit in the foreground, what really strikes the eye here is that vibrant sun in the background, casting a peachy glow on the fruit.
