Sonia, my eighty-three year old grandmother, has been in the art business since she was a teenager. (She picked it up from her mother, Jennie — it runs in the family.) Sonia closed up shop about twenty years ago, and moved out from Brooklyn to the suburbs of North Jersey to be closer to her family. She brought the paintings with her.

Now, a generation later, I’m helping her sell art from her collection online. I’m Emma, about to enter my second year at St. John’s College, and not entirely sure what to write about myself. My grandmother has instilled in me an appreciation for art, so getting a chance to work hands-on in the business is tremendously exciting. Working with her is a valuable experience both because it’s a good way to connect with someone I love dearly and also because she’s giving me one hell of an education.
